Congratulations to all the swimmers at the Northern Open
last Sunday - many pbs, finalists & trophies
A special commendation to Gabby Crawford who was joint
'Top Girl'. Well done to everyone & special thanks to
Michelle & Mark for the poolside help.Also,
congratulations to all of the senior Leander swimmers on their
excellent performances at the Scottish Nationals. Georgia
Hohmann, Ann Morris, Fiona Donnelly, Becky Adlington,
Andy Mayor and Helena Thornton all swam very well.
Our best wishes now go to Georgia and Ann who
will be swimming for GB at the European Junior Championships in
Prague starting July 8th

We Honour the Achievements at 'The Midlands' by Leander
Swimmers
Congratulations to all our
swimmers who took part in the Midlands Age Group Championships
at Coventry.
In their own age groups there were top 5 finishes for Georgie
Young (2), Hannah Meek (3) and Gabby Crawford (5) and top 10
finishes for Dani Binks (7) and Nick Hobbs (10).
Francesca Hay and Daniel Moore improved on last years positions
whilst Leanne Martin battled on through injury.
Sam Carnell, Adam Scotney, Louise Hamer, Jessica Moore, Emma Lowry, Peter
Amante-Roberts and Bethany Kendall all performed well in their
first appearance. Well done all of them! |

Yes - we won the Notts & Derby Final gala convincingly
(points), and
the league - so qualifying for the Southern Area Final in
October (on the 4th, at Blackshots Pool, Grays, Essex)

Saturday night (9th) - Leander Winners of the Spring
Competition at Sutton Pool. Leander A won the gala by
a large margin from CABSC, and hence the league overall.
Leander B also put up a good performance finishing 6th but
only by a few points.
Excellent swims from both teams, and a special
thanks to the Meeks who came back early from a family wedding
for Hannah to swim and for those who got off their sick beds so
as to not let the team down. Also a little extra thank you to
Anthony Tsolakis who stepped in at the last minute as cover. |

Another big weekend for Leander swimmers.
The Spring Competition Final at Sutton has both
Leander A & B swimming - so around 60 of our swimmers will
be in action there - should be exciting.
Have a good swim! Go Leander!
No respite for some though - the Haden Hill
Open at Wolverhampton on Sunday sees more than a dozen
Leander swimmers trying for Midland times - the last chance!
Good luck to them.
Also congratulations to Hannah Meek who set a
National Qualifying time at 100m backstroke at the National
Final

Congratulations to Sophie Coldwell who set a 50m f/s
National Qualifying time at the Midland Youth Championships last
weekend.
Also, well done to all the swimmers at Open Meets last weekend. Quite
a few were at Ponds Forge for the Radford Open, and several
younger members at the Rykneld Open.
Some excellent pbs set at both meets. |

Well we went to the Cup Final, the swimmers swam their hearts
out, we cheered, we sweated, we waved flags and we all had a great time. Leander
went in as10th seed apparently, and we finished in 9th so we
improved on our
ranking. So not only are we in the top 10 clubs, we can now say we
are 9th best!
Well done the squad
Many thanks to the club coaches, officials
and the supporters for all their efforts and support.

Nuneaton & Bedworth Open on Saturday.
At the end of Saturday we were 3rd Club, despite
having only a few swimmers - City of Leicester were 1st with a
large squad, and the hosts 2nd, again with a large entry - so
well done Leander.
Also, I hear we were still 3rd at end of Sunday - Excellent! |

League Cup Final tickets (Ponds Forge, Sheffield 26th April). It's worth going to
support Leander even if you don't have children swimming.
I went to the B Final last year as a supporter and it was a
really exciting event. We need all the noisy supporters we can
get - it's a great day out so come along and support the club on
this momentous occasion! |

We featured in every final,
had 10 first places, 4 seconds and 2 thirds in the Finals
(out of 20 events). Special congratulations to the 16y
Girls A & B teams who had an amazing 'dead heat' for first in the
Medley Relay (it says in the official results so it must be
true.- despite the evidence of our own eyes....) find the relay

Nottingham Leander have
won the National
Swimming (Speedo) League East Midlands. This is the first time
the club have won this league. It means that Leander will now
compete in the National A Final for the first time and
is counted in the top 10 clubs in the country. NO other
Nottingham club has achieved this for over 20 years!

At the recent Commonwealth Youth Games in India, Helena
Thornton won a gold medal in the girls 200m Individual Medley
(2:18.43), a silver medal in the 200m breast stroke
(2:34.11) and a bronze in the medley relay. |

Georgia Hohmann won the U16 200m backstroke at the recent UK
School Games held at Bath University. Highlights of the
swimming (and some of the other sports) will be on Channel 4
Sunday 21st at 7.30am and Sunday 28th at 7.35am. Georgia was
interviewed at the time, so she may make an appearance.

Congratulations to Chris Sheppard, Tim
Roberts, Jason Knight, Richard Burton and Mark Handley(the
reserve) on completing their Channel Relay Swim on Friday 15th
August in a time of 12hours 23 minutes. If you would
like to make a donation to one of their Charities please log
onto their website www.channelswim2008.co.uk the
Charities they are supporting are Diabetes UK, Cancer Research
UK and Barnardo's. Chris Sheppard is obviously a glutton for

Congratulations to Georgia Hohmann who won Gold in the
14/15yrs 200 Back and Pierce Doran who won Silver in the 1500
Free and 400 Free at the National Youth Champs. Both
did pbs on all their swims. Also Liam Smith made the
final on 200 fly in a Personal Best time. |
