Lots of noise and excited youngsters (around 90) at the 3rd Junior Gala on Sunday - thanks to all the swimmers and helpers. Plenty of future champions we hope.

Also, congratulations to Georgie Young for performances at the recent Midland Championships - winner of the girls 13yrs, accumulating 4 gold, 2 silver & 2 bronze medals while setting 9 National qualifying times and and a Commonwealth Trial QT - well done!

Rebecca Adlington (won the 200m free yesterday), Ann Morris, Fiona Donnelly, Georgia Hohmann, Georgie Young and Sam 'the man' van de Schootbrugge. Good luck to all of them.

One other 'stand-out' performance was that of Georgie  Young - 1st in the 200m breaststroke, amazing for a Junior swimmer, setting a County Age Group record and a National qualifying time as well! - Excellent

Congratulations to 8yr old Summer Kennedy who represented the Midlands at Coventry in the ISA All England Nationals and gained Gold and Bronze Medals - Well done

Updates

Sunday - Falcon Open, Beechdale. Despite a relatively restricted entry, Leander finished 2nd Club with many finalists. Leanne Martin & Louise Hamer were joint top girls and Megan Langton 3rd - excellent!

Saturday/Sunday - Midland Short Course Championships, Corby. Several swimmers representing Leander: Gemma Walker, Bethany Kendall, Liam Smith, Sophie Coldwell and Leanne Martin (who also managed to be at Falcon Open on Sunday!). Highlight - Sophie Coldwell achieved a 2010 National Qualifying Time in the 50m f/s - well done Sophie!
Several other Leander swimmers were also there swimming under the Nova banner. Well done to all of them.

Congratulations to Sam van de Schootbrugge (star Leander swimmer in the Arena League Round 1) won the Senior boys 200IM at the ESSA Schools Swimming Championships at Crystal Palace in a new ESSA record time. He also formed part of the winning Senior Boys Freestyle Relay Team which broke the ESSA record in the heats and then went on to break its own record in the final.

Meanwhile, simultaneously at Retford in Gala 1 of the Notts & District League, Leander were second by just 1 point from Carlton Forum. Great effort from the team. Points

A new Season Starts!
Training is now back in full swing - and swimmers are now finding which muscles they haven't been using over the summer.
The first Open with Leander swimmers has already taken place at Ponds Forge last Sunday (Worksop Dukeries).

Congratulations to:
Andrew Zawadski - At the British Learning Disability Championships in Sheffield, 22nd August, he gained 6 Golds, 5 pbs and set British & European records in the S14 class at 50m backstroke. Also, on 3rd Sep. at UK School Games he won 2 golds and a silver. Well done Andrew!

Well done to all the club swimmers at the Notts ASA Summer Gala last Sunday  (results available here) - the end of a long season of galas!

Also, Ann Morris collected a Bronze medal at the European Junior Swimming Championships in the 400m freestyle (also a Gold as part of the 200m relay squad). and Georgia Hohmann made the final of the 200m backstroke. Great Swims.
