The Green Octopus, as we know, has many tentacles that spread out wide across the country. And wherever success and great performances occur, you can also guarantee that we will do our utmost to recognise and acknowledge those achievements.
Therefore it’s with great pride and pleasure that two of our own both competed and completed the London Marathon a couple of weekends ago with two fantastic individual stories.
First off there’s Lisa Chaplin, head of Leander’s Tadpoles section. Lisa completed the course in 7hrs 33 minutes and 12 seconds. After having two hip replacements even contemplating such a task should be inspiration to us all and remind us that anything and everything is possible.
Secondly there’s John Dickerson, father to Rosie and Harriet and one of our band of volunteer officials. Set a challenge by Rosie to run a marathon before he was 50, John came up trumps in a time of 4hrs 13 minutes and 40 seconds.
John also used the opportunity to raise over £3,000 for the Operation Smile charity. John's fund raising page gives you the full background story here.
From all of the Green Octopus family a huge well done and congratulations to both. We’re all looking forward to seeing these new PBs smashed out of the water!
