Water Polo

Nottingham Leander Water Polo Team are a part of the Nottingham Leander Swimming Club.
We are always looking to recruit new members to take part in our training sessions and competitive matches. Nottingham Leander Water Polo takes part in two leagues the 'Nottingham ASA League' and the 'Nottingham Winter League'. This is done so that all members are given a fair share of matches! The 'Nottingham Winter League' is not very competitive (try telling the other teams that). Leander use this opportunity to experiment with players and give our younger and less experienced members a taste of what a real water polo match is like - this is also done to build the team's fitness for the new season. The 'Nottingham ASA League' is more competitive. In this league we like to put our stronger team out to play the matches, but there is still a lot of opportunity for new and less experienced players to take part - we do this to give them even more experience and hopefully build a good team for the future.

The Nottingham Winter League Runs from November to February and the Nottingham ASA League Runs from February/March to October. (months can vary, as matches will be re-arranged from time to time)

We prefer players that are above the age of 13 this is because some matches can be very physical but if players are under the age of 13 and interested in playing they are quite welcome to our training sessions and some of the Winter League matches.

Competitions
Leander played in the final of the Handicap Cup, on Sunday 8th December 2002 against Hucknall B (well, we really think it was their A team!). A Handicap competition is where a lower ranked team is given a number of goals which are added onto the final score. In this game, Leander would have a 6 goal advantage.

The result at the end of the four periods was 9 - 9, and with the goal handicap Leander won 15 - 9. Even with the handicap Leander were very surprised to win so a draw on the night was fantastic. A full squad turned up for the final, with the goal scorers being - Richard Burton 1, Craig Davis 1, Dave Shrub 1, Glen Dale 1, Phil Davis 3 and Jason Knight 2.

Who says that the swimming teams have all glory?
