Rebecca Adlington smashed the Commonwealth and European records as she swam just outside of the world record to claim Gold in the 800m Freestyle. Rebecca finished in a time of 8:08.25.

Rebecca also claimed a Silver medal in the 4x200m Freestyle relay team.

This years British Championships just held in Sheffield, was also being used as a qualification for this years Olympic squad. In order to make the Olympic team, athletes must finish in first or second place in the final of their event and have met the FINA ‘A’ time for that event in the heat. 

Rebecca Adlington has been selected to this year's Olympic squad in the 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle and the 4x200m Freestyle relay. She also won the 200m, 400m, 800m Freestyle finals. In the process she broke the British and Commonwealth records for the 400m and 800m Freestyle. 

Helena Thornton was 5th in the 200IM Final, 6th in the 400IM Final, 7th in the 200m Breaststroke Final, and 19th in 100m Breaststroke. Helena's swim in the 200IM was 0.03s outside the qualifying time and a 5 second PB, and will place her 5th in the British rankings. Her swim in the 400IM was an 8 second PB, and will place her 7th in the British rankings. Helena started at Leander when she was 5 years old, and has progressed through the ranks. At an early age she discovered that the invisibility effect of the pool steps didn't last long, and so decided that swimming was the best way forward.
